Pipes and Drums
In 2010, several members of the El Dorado Hills Fire Department traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado for the Annual IAFF Fire Fighter Memorial. It was an unforgettable, emotional experience! What we returned home with was a desire to bring the great Firefighter tradition of Bagpipes and Drum Bands here to El Dorado Hills. Several other members of the Department showed the same interest, and soon local instructors were sought after. In February 2011, we began private lessons and since then we have invested a great deal of time and effort into this amazing tradition of honoring our fallen brothers and sisters. We also hope to show respect by performing for our past and future Retirees, our Department, and our community.
Our initial goal is to honor the only EDH firefighter lost in duty, Peter Bertelsen, at a memorial ceremony held annually on September 16th. We also plan to help celebrate the 50 year anniversary of the El Dorado Hills Fire Department coming up in 2013! The El Dorado Hills Firefighters Pipes and Drums consist of three drummers and three bagpipers with several in training. We look forward to creating a great tradition here at the El Dorado Hills Fire Department.
