Sacramento – Starting July 1, 2011 new legislation will go into effect requiring homeowners to install carbon monoxide detectors in every California home; a move CAL FIRE officials say will save lives. "Carbon monoxide is a silent killer, each year claiming the lives of an average of 480 people," said Acting State Fire Marshal Tonya Hoover. The El Dorado Hills Fire Department completed another "Evening with the Firefighters". Four students participated in the program and were picked up from school in a fire engine and taken to the grocery store to purchase groceries for the evening’s meal. They were given a tour of the fire station, trained on fire safety, and graduated to become a part of the on-duty crew. They participated in helping with station duties, training and cooking dinner for the crew. The parent of one of the students put together the following slideshow of their adventure. Slideshow
