Notice is hearby given that a LAFCO hearing will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. for the purpose of the Latrobe Fire Protection District Dissolution and the El Dorado Hills County Water District Annexation of Latrobe Fire Protection District. There is a dangerous new activity that some teenagers are attempting which is called the "Fire Challenge". The "Fire Challenge" involves teenagers pouring an ignitable liquid, often rubbing alcohol, on their bare skin and then lighting themselves on fire.
It was recently reported to our Fire Department that there are individuals making phone calls posing as an El Dorado Hills Fire representative soliciting funds to support our Fire Department. This is a SCAM. Please do NOT give any information or money to these individuals as they have no relation to our Fire Department. If you are contacted, please report the information to our On-Duty Battalion Chief at (916) 933-6623 ext. 12, as well as the El Dorado Sheriff's Office at (530) 621-5655.

Hands4Hope is a non-profit, outreach organization that focuses on serving people in need in El Dorado and Sacramento Counties. Many students in El Dorado County do not have access to essential school supplies for the upcoming 2014-15 school year. Donations of school supplies are greatly appreciated. All four of our fire stations are accepting donations through August 3, 2014.

ALL fireworks are illegal in El Dorado County. El Dorado County Municipal Code 8.08.050 states: "Any person who uses, discharges or possesses any fireworks within the unincorporated territory of the county is guilty of a misdemeanor". Violation of this law could result in 6 months of jail time and a $500 fine.
Due to the drought and the threat of large damaging wildfires in our communities, beginning on Sunday, June 1st, the Amador-El Dorado Unit and Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit will suspend dooryard burning permits.

On Thursday, May 15, 2014 at approximately 7:15 hours, five Type III Wildland fire engines, a Strike Team Leader and Strike Team Leader Trainee were requested to respond to the Highway Fire in the Camp Pendleton area of San Diego. The five fire engines were formed up to become Strike Team #4205. The fire engines were provided by the following fire departments: 1. El Dorado Hills Fire Department 2. El Dorado County Fire Department 3. Cameron Park Fire Department 4. Georgetown Fire Department 5. Garden Valley Fire Department The firefighters are committed to serving on the Southern California Wildfires for up to 14 days. This week, California Insurance Commissioner announced the approval of a set of rate changes submitted by USAA that will provide anywhere from 12 to 16 percent savings on homeowner insurance premiums for the typical USAA customer in California. If that customer lives in a recognized Firewise community, they will enjoy an additional 5% break. We can only hope that other state insurance departments and other major insurers take notice of what Commissioner Jones calls "USAA's enterprising decision" to address wildfire risk reduction.
Use a life vest, save a life. El Dorado Hills Fire Department received a grant from the Life Jacket Loaner Program sponsored by the U.S. and California Boats and Waterways Association which loans flotation devices to local boaters.
On April 29 and 30, the El Dorado Hills Firefighters, Highway Patrol Officers and others came together to present an event designed to dramatically instill teenagers with the potentially dangerous consequences of drinking alcohol and texting while driving.
With the warmer weather, we are beginning to see rattlesnakes around El Dorado Hills. If you encounter a rattlesnake, don't panic! Stay calm and dial 9-1-1. Keep a visual on the snake while maintaining a safe distance and we will be dispatched accordingly. We are only able to remove and relocate the rattlesnakes if they are visible.
