Each Fire Department has different minimum requirements for the position of Firefighter, as well as different hiring processes.  In general, most Fire Departments require that applicants obtain their Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) and Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification prior to applying for positions.  Once you have these certifications, we recommend that you start searching for Fire Departments that are hiring.

Many agencies, including the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, use Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) for the hiring process.  Candiates must be on the FCTC statewide list to be eligible for a safety position within our department.

Please visit www.FCTConline.org to register for upcoming exams (if applicable) and learn more about the exam process and requirements.

In addition to being registered on FCTC, you can visit our Employment webpage and subscribe to our Employment Opportunity notification system to be notified when we are hiring.

As of August 9, 2010, we officially took possession of a new 80/20 grant funded burn trailer.  This has been a joint project between Folsom Fire Department (the host Department), Sacramento City Fire, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire, Cosumnes Fire and El Dorado Hills Fire.  This prop will be a great training tool so that we can work on live fire training in our own Fire District.

The Department is committed to providing training that meets fire service industry standards.  This is accomplished by utilizing the vast variety of Department personnel and the talents and expertise they possess. Additionally, the Training Division uses instructors certified by the California State Fire Marshal, National Wildfire Coordinating Group, California Incident Command Certification System and other recognized certifying agencies.

The Training Division works with our internal personnel to build promotional academies to offer education and opportunity those that desire to promote.  Additionally, we have implemented Task Books for each rank to assist personnel in preparing for future promotions and additional skill sets.

In conjunction with Human Resources, the Training Division conducts promotional examinations for career and volunteer personnel positions.  We coordinate training for newly hired firefighters and volunteers, as well as assist with the El Dorado County Training Officers Volunteer Recruit Fire Academy.

The Training Division maintains a very active role in the El Dorado County Training Officer Association, along with joint training with surrounding agencies.

The Training Division's mission is to ensure that El Dorado Hills Fire Department personnel provide the highest level of emergency and non-emergency services to the community and return home safely at the end of each shift.  This aligns with our Department mission statement: "We, the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, exist to serve and protect the Community through emergency management."
