How to volunteer...

The Volunteers represent a large part of our organization.  They are our second line of defense, our backstop to emergencies that occur in our community.  Our volunteer firefighters donate their time, train to a high standard, participate in all aspects of department functions and represent us well to our public.  Our volunteers work right along side the career firefighters.  They contribute greatly to our operation and remind us of what true service can be.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter you must meet the following conditions.

  1. You must be 18 years old at the time of appointment.
  2. You must be a resident of El Dorado Hills Fire Department’s District.
  3. You must have a high school diploma or a GED.
  4. You must have a clean driving record.
  5. You may not have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony.
  6. You must pass a physical agility test and go before an oral board.

After being selected you will be asked to commit to the following:

v     50-50-50-50 Program:  50 hours of training, 50 ride-alongs, attend 50% of the Volunteer Drills, and go on 50 calls.

v     Recruit Academy :  If you do not have your Firefighter I certificate you will attend the Volunteer Recruit Academy which meets every Wednesday night from January through May and includes five Saturdays.

v     Obtain your EMT I certificate.

v     Participate in the community events sponsored by the Association:  Wine and Cheese Event, February Dinner, July Picnic, Christmas Dinner and Santa Run.

If you are willing to do what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter with our Department, download the application, complete it and return it along with your resume. Because we typically recruit in the late summer, your application will be held until that time and you will be notified when recruitment actually begins.

If you have any questions about being a volunteer please contact any of the following Chiefs, either by phone or at their email addresses.
