Choose the size
which best fits the child's current head size. Helmets generally
generally come in a range of sizes from extra small to extra
large. These sizes should fit toddlers through adults.
-
Use the pads which
come with the helmet to adjust the helmet to fit the child's head. The
helmet should fit comfortably close to the child's head without being
too tight. The pads can be rearranged as the child grows.
-
After
putting in the pads, hold the helmet by the buckle and make sure the
straps are the same length. If one of the straps is longer, pull on the
shorter strap until the straps are the same length.
-
Put
the helmet on the child's head, and adjust the straps by sliding the
straps through the opening in the clip located at the point where the
front and the back parts of the strap are joined. The front and back parts
of the straps should form a "V" just under the child's ear.
-
Put
the strap under the child's chin, and fasten the buckle by pressing it
together until you hear a "click." Adjust the strap so that it
fits comfortably close under the child's chin without being too tight. To
unfasten the buckle, squeeze the two outer parts of the buckle together.
-
A correctly fitted helmet should be worn level on the child's head, with a
space of of more than 3/4 of an inch between the child's eyebrows and
the front of the helmet (see picture "below)." The
helmet should not be so loose that it can move more than a half an inch in any direction.

-
In
the event of a crash, the helmet should be replaced. Helmets are only intended to
absorb one impact, and their protection will be compromised after any
significant impact. Many helmet companies have crash replacement
policies. See your owner's manual for details.
